Lupins

Hubby has just gifted me a dry lupin stem,it's a really gorgeous purple. Have collected the seeds.  Do I sow now or save till spring?

    I'd probably wait until spring, but you'll have quite a few seeds I'd imagine, so you could sow some now and if they don't make it through winter, so sow some more in the spring

    It was only one little new plant, probably 20 seeds,are they as easy to grow as sweet peas. Never grown from seed, haven't had lupins for donkeys years

    I grew Lupin Festival from seed a few years ago.
    I sowed them 3rd March 2016 and they started flowering the same year on 6 June, albeit small spikes with some nice colours.
    I had about 10 plants.
    Over the years all but one has died - slugs and snails - so I have have one pink one left.
    I'll sow some more next year

    I grow new each year as i find second year plants to be the best.
    I sow in June, plant out in Autumn, ready to flower the following year, then remove after flowering.

    You said it’s a purple colour,  are the seeds black already?

    Just to add, they may not come true from seed,  I’ve collected some seed from one of mine, I’m hoping eventually they will revert to the original yellow.

    Yes,the seed pods were black and crispy and seeds are black. Do you chit and soak? Punkdoc are the seeds ready to collect in June then?

    I have only ever just put them straight into the compost, no chitting  or soaking, we don’t have very nice weather here through the winter, usually,  so I plant them out the following Spring.
    I would  sow next Spring now,  they may send up a flower stem the same year, I cut those off so as to make a bigger plant.

    Lyn,does anyone have "very nice weather" in winter! They can go in a green house. Have counted them, there's over 30,will do some now then. Are they bi annual?
