Will walking on turf be an issue?

edited September 2021 in Problem solving
Hi all,

I had some new turf laid a couple of days ago. The person laying it said it would be OK for me to talk on for watering purposes.

I walk from the concrete to the metal drain in the middle but noticed the grass has been pushed down a bit and it seems to be uneven. Will this be ok/recoverable once the turf has bedded in?

Kind regards
Dan

I have visions of you standing on the man hole cover giving a very dramatic speech.

Seriously, it looks fine. If you can walk on a plank, scaffold board or something similar to spread you weight out, that'd be good. Otherwise, just tread carefully.

  • A sprinkler with a good range ought to mean that you don't have to walk on it very much.

When our garden was returfed I had to walk on it every couple of days when watering to move the sprinker.  It didn't do any harm and I made sure to keep off apart from that.  Our lawn is 100 feet long and I couldn't find a sprinkler with that range :-)

Spreading your weight is the secret until the roots have compacted the top layer of soil.
