Purple asters are white this year.

For years the asters in our garden have had purple blooms. This year, for the first time, they are pure white. They look healthy otherwise. Why has this happened? The garden is a shady courtyard.

It's likely to be self seeded new plant.
The colour will often be different to that of the parent plant

  • You could well be right Pete.8, although I am pretty sure these were from roots divided last year, and all of them are now white - no blue/purple in the garden at all.

hmm - self seeding is less likely then.
In which case I have no idea :)
hopefully someone else can shed some light
