Plant ID

Hello,

This summer has involved some remodelling in the garden, and this plant started to spring up in the corner amongst piled up lumps of soil. I let it grow out of interest, knowing that is probably a weed.

Automated apps suggest green/West Indian nightshade. It’s grown to about 1.2m tall over the last 2 months, there are small, white flowers and separately clusters of very small green fruit.

Does anyone have an idea if the automated ID is correct?

Thanks

  • It is a nightshade and is probably solanum nigrum, black nightshade. It's a very poisonous family of plants.

Some pretty plants can be more dangerous than they are worth if you have children or pets.
