Lasagne planting using Fritillaria Imperialis

I have a large (ish) pot (38cm diameter x 38cm height) that I'm planing three Fritillaria Imperialis bulbs into but can't work out what other plants/bulbs to also plant in there as a lasagne to give a longer display.

Evidently the flower April to May.

Might you have some ideas as my brain has given up the ghost on me?

I don't think you could successfully plant many other bulbs with those, not in a pot anyway. Crocus probably, or some of the very early dwarf narcissus.  :)

They're very impressive plants, so I think something like Ophiopogon planiscapus nigrescens would be better round the edges of the pot, but the growing medium would need to be right for watering etc.

I'll check out your suggestions, thanks. much appreciated.

@richard49 I wouldn't plant these bulbs with others as the plant is best shown by itself in clumps and without the dying foliage of earlier bulbs to detract from the glory of their flowers.   @Fairygirl's idea of the black lily turf is good tho.

Fritillaria imperialis bulbs are large and have a deep hole in the top.  They will rot of this fills with water so do remember to plant them on their sides to avoid losing them as tehy'r enot cheap.

  • Thank you for your input Obelixx, much appreciated.

I'll probably get the Black Lilly Turf as suggested, thanks again
