What can i plant in the wall?

Hi, so I have this wall at the end of my garden. Its horrid with the big metal caging that I can’t remove. Looking for things I can plant in it that might spread a bit to cover some of the metal? I had a clemitis and a couple of other climbers but the dog peed on them a few too many times and they died, so i cant really plant stuff under the wall so im hoping in/on might work. Can anyone recommend some things please?

There's a few ideas here from Sarah Raven that might be of help  :)

Get some window box planters and use wire to tie them to the top of the gabions. Then plant anything that is recommended for a sunny window box. There are so many options, I wouldn't know where to start with a list, but if you google suggestions for window boxes, you'll find loads of ideas  :)

I think it's a nice wall, someone's gone to a lot of effort coursing the stone! If you want to hide it I would cover with a climber and shield the base of it to keep the dog wee off it. After it has established itself the dog wee won't kill it.

  • You would need to pour soil over the wall to infill the cracks to give plants something to grow in. Another idea is to wash the wall with natural yogurt diluted with water to encourage lichens to grow. Creeping thymes and sedums might succeed. It is very difficult to keep a stone wall weed free. I have stone walls around part of my garden which has no problem with growing grass and a variety of weeds. As your wall is so low you could possibly plant the top level with camomile to use as a seat area, if it is wide enough.
