Privacy Hedge Behind Metal Railings
Shortlist:
Portugese Laurel (good value)
Japanese Laurel (expensive tall)
Golden King (seems cheap)
Camilla? Nice flowers in the winter.
I've got a bay window around 1 to 1.5m (at its closest) away from a black metal railing and am seeking a hedge or collection of shrubs that I can plant for a reasonable cost (would pay up to £500 for a decent quick solution but can also wait) to achieve privacy along a north facing elevation. I'd say I'll need to maintain the hedge at around 1m deep and it will be very close to the dry block stack wall the the railing is built off.
I'll have to prune one side of the hedge either on the near or far side of the railings. The latter would allow the hedge to grow through the railing.
To add to the issue I'll only be able to plant half way along the bay window as the topsoil tapers in. So I may have to examine using a pot or some planters (maybe a raised planter into a raised bed to the full length) but there's only around 900mm to play with in this area which limits the options dramatically.
Are the shortlisted bunch above suitable for either of these options? I think combining the three options across a bed and planter could be a nice solution.
Do they all prune well. Does anyone see anything I'm missing or have any suggestions?

What is Golden King? There's a holly [Ilex] with that name.
I presume you mean Camellia for the last one. I wouldn't plant those there either. They need decent soil and plenty of moisture to do well.
I'd use Beech. Or Yew.
The site will need to be very well prepped and the hedge well watered, especially as it's not a great site to start with. Pots and planters won't be very successful, but without seeing exactly what size you're talking about, and how you'd create them, it's very hard to judge.
If you wait around a month, you can buy bare root planting which is much cheaper, and it will establish better.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
