What pest is doing this please !

I’ve noticed a lot of distinctive yellow dots cropping up on a couple of my plants
on the philodendron narrow the damage is significant and the little yellow dots left by this pest weep
ive checked these plants with a fine toothed comb and I can’t see any physical bugs
I’ve sprayed with pesticide but it hasn’t helped so far

  • I think that may be a rust or bacterial problem caused by damp conditions.

There is no poit in spraying insecticides unless you know the pest you're treating ... it's a waste of your money and bad for the environment ... but you know that now  ;)

Sounds to me more like fungal leaf spot but may also be caused by your watering methods.  Here's what the RHS advises but you can search their site for more specific info:

    Spots on leaves

Dark spots with yellow margins on leaves may be due to fungal leaf spot, but white or straw-coloured spots or rings are likely to be due to cold (i.e. not room temperature) water splashes, aerosol damage or watering with cold water. Pale coloured spots may also develop if plants have too much sun or from aerosol damage on exposed surfaces.
Control: Treat fungal diseases with approved fungicides. Avoid using cold water (allow it to become room temperature before use e.g for orchids). Avoid using aerosols (leaf shine products or insecticide products). Move plants to a shadier position if in a bright window.

  • Thank you, though I’m not convinced it’s leaf spot, the little dots weep nectar which I think suggests sap sucking insects ? But I will treat for that just in case :)
im well aware pesticide is not good for the environment (found that comment pretty patronising) but these are solely indoor plants, they will not come into contact with the outdoors and cannot contaminate pollinators/ ground water etc

The little dots are wounds from the fungal infection so of course they weep.

I apologise if you found that patronising … it was not intended to be so … the environment I was referring to is yours … the home that you live in … as well as the great outdoors.

We don’t use insecticides in our home … most of them seem to contain neurotoxins which are something we prefer not to ingest.
