Pieris is fine in shady sites. There are various varieties - readily available normally. You can prune if they get a bit too big as well, but some are a bit smaller. Potentillas will grow in that aspect.
Hellebores will certainly be fine, and there are lots of varieties. For other perennials, Japanese anemones are fine for this time of year for some height. Dicentras [they have a new name which I can't remember] and Lily of the Valley for spring. Native primulas and many bulbs will do well too.
Garden centres could be struggling in some areas with supplies, so you may just need to wait a little while.
