Think I have killed my Skimmia Japonica Vietchii

After 5 years I decided to repot my skimia into a smaller pot. I noticed the soil was really wet and muddy so I cut alot of it away then filled a larger pot with new soil and replanted it.
Unfortunately it appears to have perished!! Can I do anything to revive it?

Why did you put it into a smaller pot?
Has the pot got proper drainage?
While skimmias like a damper, cooler environment, they also need drainage.

They aren't great long term in pots anyway though, and if it's dead, there isn't much you can do.

A photo might help with advice though.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
