Why is my Hedge dying?

We have a boundary privet hedge in front garden. Lived here 10 yrs & in last couple of yrs, big sections of the hedge has browned and died.
The soil tends to be dry, no signs of damp or insects or holes in leaves. Any advice? We will probably need to replace parts of it but want to sort any problems. Love your advice

They can be prone to honey fungus I'm afraid, so it might be that.  :/
