Noticed this week.  Are they flower buds (or new leaf growth).  If so, will the just grow until their usual flowering time or is this a second ‘flush’  this year ?  Thank you

The rounder fuller shaped ones are buds forming now for next spring. The thinner looking tips are most likely new leaves.
  • You don't get a second flush, they build up the buds for next year. Make sure it has massive amounts of water, this year.
  • Thank you.  I didn’t think it would be a 2nd flush but they seem so early, they have months to go yet before opening !

Should I give them an ericaceous feed now or wait for spring ?

    That's how they work. :)
It's why it's important they don't go short of water at this time of year. Very important if you live in a drier part of the country, and also because they're shallow rooting so they dry out very easily. The canopy of foliage prevents water ingress too.
No need to feed. That should really only be done during the active growing season. Layering on bark or similar is a better way of feeding as it improves the soil, although you can add compost , leaf mould, or anything similar which will also be of benefit.  :)

Yup,Fairy and I on the same page.you don't want to feed them now and get soft new growth in winter
  •   We are in mid Essex, a dry part of the country so your tips about watering are appreciated.

Ah - yes. Plenty of organic matter each year will help too  :)
