Removing Bugles

Hi,
new to the forum. 
I am in rented property and much of the flower bed has been overtaken by bugles. 

So much so that digging them out each year, and covering the ground with a sheet have no effect and they choke anything else that tries to grow. 

The bees love them and I don’t mind having a small controlled patch. But is there a way of killing off the existing huge patch of them?

I have lots of animal visitors in the garden so really do not want to resort to poisons if possible.

    I just pull it out if it gets too thuggish. It's shallow rooted, so not difficult to do. The easiest way to keep it at bay is to plant something else you like better  though. Plenty of good ground cover will do, from hardy geraniums to Lamiums, Brunnera and Saxifrages, depending on the soil, climate and aspect. Spring bulbs too   :)
    Most of the new weed killers are wildlife friendlier. One application will do the job and really isn't a problem. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
