Moss

One of my borders which is in shade has a lot of moss growing in the soil and is quite damp.  How do I get rid of the moss so it doesn't come back?  Do I need to add anything to the soil to help? Once the moss has gone I would like to plant some perennials but not sure what to put there but don't want anything that grows too big.  Any help much appreciated as new to gardening.

    The moss is there because it's the ideal conditions for it  :)
    You can scrape it away, but the more planting you have, the  less moss there'll be. 
    There are lots of perennials which grow well in damp shady locations.

    I grow ferns, Polemonium, Dicentra, Geraniums, Primulas and Hellebores in shady damp borders, as well as various bulbs. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Many thanks - I will get out and scrape/dig the moss away and try and keep it away until next Spring for planting and try to decide what bulbs on buy!
