Heavy pruning of Yucca... at this time?

I can't entrust the landlord of my friends to maintain this yucca until its ideal pruning time (v. early spring apparently?) so the urge is to take this opportunity to attack. Thing is, my friend is wanting 'as much pruned back as possible'...

bad timing and a request of that freedom just makes me worry. aany advice ?
