Datura Stramomium (Devil's Snare/Trumpet) - would you always uproot?

Hi, as a novice gardener, I have no idea if some weeds are considered 'keepers' or not. I appear to have a Datura Stramomium in the middle of my wildflower garden. It's about a metre tall and quite pretty, but it towers above the other wildflowers.

Is this a very invasive or harmful weed? Would you always remove it? If so, do I have to burn it at this time of year (when it has full prickly seed pods) or can it go into my brown bin?

  • If it has already set seed and you don't want any more, put the flower head in your green/brown bin. The council should heat treat sufficiently to avoid any seedlings ( not always the case the days tho ).
Daturas have a rather bad press but if you don't eat them, they aren't dangerous :)
  • We frequently find them in our veg patch (also in Norfolk) ... if they're not in the way I leave them  to flower but pull them up before they set seed ... I put them in the Council Brown bin for garden waste.
