Preserving hydrangea flowers

I would like to cut some of the flowers from my hydrangea 'little lime' they are now pink tinged and looking lovely. How do I best preserve them? Will the bracts fall off etc?

  • I have only preserved the mop head varieties; cut and split the stems to take up more water and stand in a vase with about 2 inches of water and leave until water has gone.

  • I was thinking of dried flowers but I might try that method, thanks.
  • They will be dry when they have taken up the water, it preserves them.
  • Aah I see,Thank you.

I’m sure I read somewhere about standing the stems of wedding flowers in glycerine. Might be worth doing an internet search on that. Would be nice to preserve the colour for a while.

Try in a shoe box with silica gel crystals.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
