Tomatoes and Blight

Hi all,

It's our first year with a veggie patch up in herts.  Does anyone have any advice on winning against blight as it wiped out all of our tomatoes growing outside.  The ones in the polytunnel have done really well.

Heres some photos of the tomatoes on our instagram page

    Welcome to the Forum
It's all down to the crappy weather I'm afraid.

Very common this year. Weather and general conditions. Nothing you can do except grow undercover, and you can still get it there if you have it in the garden nearby etc.

You've just been unlucky that it's the worst year for blight in summer that I can remember.
Usually tomatoes grow very well outside in a British summer (some northern parts excepted) and you can expect a good crop usually.
Keep the faith and I'm sure next year will be more typical and you'll not know what to do with all your tomatoes

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • And of course worth trying some blight resistant varieties next year. I'll sure be.

An excellent crop in NE and no blight warnings from Blight Watch

Will add this to the Beechgrove thread if I can find it, but they did an item on toms last night, including a new one or two which are blight resistant.  :)
