I always promised myself that if I won a fortune on the lottery, I would buy several television sets and a pile of bricks. Then if anything came on screen that really annoyed me ( like the advert with that irritating man with his guaranteed life plan ) I could have the satisfaction of throwing a brick at the screen. Probably not as exciting these days with flat screen TVs. Something equivalent that would instantly convey my level of annoyance to those in charge of programming, would be a great invention.
Just toss the TV out of the window and have done. No more ads.
So tempting, but not as much fun as the brick!
we once had an old Sony tv that would mute itself and lose the picture during the ad breaks! Don’t know why or how but it was really convenient. Thats a thought for another invention, auto blocking of adverts. I don’t bother watching much myself. Usually got my head in a book, real or online library version.
I’m sure I read, some years ago, about a sonic device that could only be heard by young people, and was being trialled for crowd control. Made them feel sick and disorientated. I wonder what became of that? Probably wouldn’t work now as they’d all have their earphones in.... The boy racers wouldn’t be able to hear it above their engines.
They're called Mosquitos, and they're really unpleasant. I heard a brilliant story of kids subverting their use though - they recorded them and set them up as notification tones on their phones, so they could hear them in the classroom while the teacher was oblivious!

The sonic devices? You could make the tone very low, perhaps, rather than very low - something like an earthquake about to kick off.
