  • At this time of year its best to pick just under ripe, as sudden rain can cause them to split ( because the skins have set) They can always be finished off on a window ledge

Good stuff @Ferdinand2000. Hopefully you'll get a few more. Just a wee balancing act with timing and weather now. I'd agree with what @purplerallim says re rain etc  :)

Most of mine are undercover but I experimented by leaving one outside - right up against the house wall, and well protected. I picked a few toms from it yesterday.  I have another one that came in at night and out in the day. It's nearly done so it's been outside for the last week. It's been unnaturally mild and dry here for August and September though. I wouldn't get away with it most years.

  • I now need to find out what to do to keep them to use later.

I probably have about 3x as much to come.

  • Just freeze them whole to use in soups or sauces later
  • Hi @Ferdinand2000

Sorry if I digress, I notice in your second picture one of your leaves has brown/purple patches on it. I am wondering what might be causing it as I have the same problem with two of my greenhouse cherry tomato plants. If you, or another forum member, knows what the cause might be I would be grateful to hear about it.

That's just normal for the time of year and the stage the plants are at @deepdales61P2BF-3WN. Mine are always the same  :)

  • Those patches are often caused by water ( condensation in a greenhouse ) or temperature changes. Its been an odd year , so not surprising plants are suffering.  Some people say it's a lack of trace elements,  but I'm not sure about that. Others on here might have a different view.
