When gardeners dig spuds and onions from the garden, or an apple from a tree. How much " best before date" do they give it? I've bought "perfectly ripe" mangoes and pears on their last "best before" date and they've been fine 2 weeks later. I've drank milk a month past the best before date.
I often eat or drink stuff way past it's best by date. There's still some serious misunderstanding about these dates. It's different when it's meat or fish, but the vast majority of other foodstuffs will do no harm. Let your nose be your guide....

Thanks to everyone who has replied. Anyone out there know if the "additives" in the juice adversely affect a compost heap. I am not worried about the fruit juices themselves or the water either. I'm not concerned about wasps or ants as I would make sure it was well mixed in. My main concern is just the additives, sorry for not making this clearer. I know the difference between best before & use by, but this was bought for my kids not me & they no longer drink things like this. I just didn't want to waste something if I could add it to my compost heap. I really regret adding the best before bit now, as this has seriously muddied the waters of my question. Thanks again for your replies but I don't want advice on whether it is safe or nice to drink, just on the whether the additives are safe for compost heaps.
For the amount of benefit putting it on your compost heap will bring - which will be very small indeed - I'd either drink it or pour it down the drain.
