Penstemon cuttings, what next?

Pam100Pam100 Posts: 85
Hi. I’ve potted up a number of penstemon cuttings and put a plastic bag over them. Most seem to have taken root now. What is the next step? i.e. where do you suggest I keep them now (they’ve been inside in a light room away from bright sunlight). Many thanks

I'm taking penstemon cuttings too so just a note to myself as well:

"Cuttings can be placed in the cold frame or in the cool end of the glasshouse to over-winter. The cool temperature of between 5-8 centigrade initiates a good root formation."

Pot them on individually once they're a decent enough size. Let them get established, but put them outside for a little while each day in suitable conditions, ie not in full sun or thrashing rain.  Then start to harden them off and get them outdoors into a cold frame or similar.

During the winter they will probably get a mould (white powdery stuff on leaves) on them , don’t worry about that because next Spring they will grow shoots from the base then you cut off all that top growth.
hope they grow for you,  lovely flowers and the bees love them.
