Cordyline

Hi everyone, new here and not very green fingered. I’ve had two cordyline plants for awhile now and yesterday i noticed one of them looks like this in the trunk. I’ve never seen this before. What does it mean? Is it dying, is that a good or bad thing. The green ones trunk looks normal. Thanks

    The fact you have common reeds growing the pot suggests it's soaking wet. They won't appreciate that at all - sitting in wet soil. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Hi there, I agree with @Fairygirl, your plant is showing signs of overwatering.  This can easily be resolved by repotting your plant in well-draining compost, preferably a third multipurpose, a third John Innes No 3 and a third extra grit to improve drainage.  Prop your pot up on pot feet to allow good drainage and only water when the top two cm of compost feel dry.  These plants don't really enjoy being in pots long term so if you have a sunny spot in your garden, I'd recommend planting them in the ground so that they can develop their tree-like trunks which give them the common name of Torbay Palm.
