Best tomatoes for sauce?

Having lost my whole crop of San Marzanos to blossom end rot I'm looking for a good variety to grow next year (can't believe I'm so organised that I'm already planning for next year). I've heard that all the Italian plum varieties are prone to blossom end rot but I'm sure there must be other, easier to grow varieties. I only have very limited greenhouse space but I have a south facing patio so I like to grow some in the greenhouse and some outside.

No sign of BER but I’ve lost most of my outdoor San Marzano crop to blight 😢

I've been growing Amish Paste for a couple of years and this year also have a great crop of Follia, an F1 type of San Marzano.  Both make large plants and are heavy croppers.  I didn't try them outside this year, but will try Follia outside next year, as well as in the GH.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I've been growing Super Mama F1 for a couple of years, heavy cropping and heavy fruits! They need a lot of support.
  • Thanks everyone for your help. I shall look into these varieties. I felt so disappointed after looking forward to making huge batches of tomato sauce and filling the freezer. We live and learn.
  • floralies - I looked at those Super Mama F1 and they're what would be called where I grew up serious dobbers. When you say they need a lot of support do you mean the plants or the actual fruits. I'm  guessing you don't mean I should talk to them every day and tell them how well they're doing!

@zakthecat the plants need good strong supports as the tomatoes are heavy and need to be tied in well, mind you they may grow heavier down here because of the weather  B) Of course you should talk to them everyday and tell them how well they are doing! Lol
