Moth/Butterfly caterpillars

Are these Cinnebar moth caterpillars? All in a mass on a very young silver birch. Are they likely to cause damage?

They are buff tip moths I think. Cinnabar moths eat ragwort.

I don't know for certain but I think in such a large congragation that they could quite easily strip the leaves off a small tree and kill it but a large tree might not suffer as much. Hopefully someone knows more about them other than an id.
  • It looks like the Buff-tip moth. I don't know how much damage they will do, but the tree should recover.

  • Thanks for that. Yes this looks like right caterpillar. I'll take a chance and leave them alone
