Onions

Hello everyone.
Our onion harvest this year has been magnificent with bulbs the size of small grapefruit.
However for various reasons we didn't plant out any shallots and we do love pickled onions.
Has anyone "pickled" ordinary onions and had a good result?
If so how small did you cut them (or not)?

    I always pickle normal onions, BUT only small ones. Lucky me.. all my onions this year are tiny!
    You can get pickled onion slices here so it does work, they lose some of the crunch though.

    Many thanks @Skandi. I expect then that they will be like the cucamelons which I have pickled and these don't keep for very long and their crunch does become less.
    I will give some slices a go.

    @bertrand-mabel  My grandmother used to pickle the larger ones in thickish rings.
    A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

    Or you can slice the onions downwards into wedges and brine and pickle them … include a piece of the root so the wedges stay intact. The different shape adds interest on the plate.
