Beetroot, (Chioggia)

Planted 9 Beetroot, (Chioggia) seedlings on 29th May. All individual seeds were grown in  pots, under glass before planting out. All appear to be doing well, but curiously all are producing 2 "bulbs" side by side. Has anyone else experienced this?

Beetroot seeds are actually seed clusters.  In future, thin the seedlings.  I just use a pair of small scissors to snip off the weakest seedlings at the seed leaf stage (rather than pulling out and upsetting the seedling I want to keep).

There are some  "monogerm" varieties available,  but they tend to be the golf ball size ones.

  • you can alway crack open the seed clusters
and plant each separately or just thin weaker
    excess plants.
