Newbie Gardener
Hello everyone
I have very recently become the new owner of a home with a middle-sized garden. It’s pretty much a blank canvas at the moment barring a beautiful ash tree at the back of the garden.
The lawn has a number of weeds so I thought it might be worth tackling this. I’d also like to create a flowerbed on the edge of the lawn. Some weed killers state not to get them anywhere near flowers so I’m not sure whether it’s best to get rid of the weeds first or create the flowerbed first and then deal with weeds.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Can you show us some photos please ... some of the weeds then hopefully we can identify them and help you to plan ... and also some of the garden ... the layout and the tree etc ... which will also help us to decide your best option.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I have attached a couple of images of the weeds most prevalent in the grass.
There’s also the full garden. Underneath the tree there are blackberries- I’ve heard these are notoriously difficult to get rid of.
All grass and some flowers or veg as well, tall displaying shrubs, raised beds, bushes etc
Have a look at friends or neighbours gardens anddecide what you dont want.
You really need to give it some real thought and then make a list and consider it for a few weeks.
didyw is correct and its a garden that hopefully will give you many years of trouble and reward but ultimately joy as well.
Enjoy !!
