Tomato flavour.

When I used to grow tomatoes I always found that the ones with green seeds were by far the tastiest. To produce green seeds the tomatoes had to suffer a near death experience around flowering time and then recover. Is it possible to get these green seeds any other way?

    Yes exactly, but with red tomatoes.

    Depends on your sense of taste I guess but many toms are spoiled by overwatering and overfeeding.
    Too many breeders/producers now are concentrating on Sweetness rather than the necessary additional "tang" which makes a decent tomato.
    The seeds don't necessarily have to be green for the tom to have a good flavour. :)

    Grew them for 30 years in a heated glasshouse, Ailsa Craig and Moneymaker mostly, and the tangy sweet really tasty ones were the green seeded ones resulting from being given a hard time. I found feeding them Tomorite etc was the quickest way to kill off the tang. Thanks to climate  and dwelling change we now grow them outside without taste success.
    Anyone know what variety Sainsbury's 'Majestic' is?

    It's probably a variety that they have had bred/designed for them and not available to the public.
    I think Moneymaker is the most bland tomato I've ever had, but it's been around forever so some must like it

    I agree about Moneymaker but they were delicious with green seeds. They also used to respond well to the green seed treatment which is why I grew them.
    Tommies have done very well outside this year. No doubt greenhouses will soon be redundant!
