Monkey Puzzel

I brought this Monkey Puzzel tree a couple of months ago and it doesn't look too well. All I've done is repotted it.
Any suggestions please.

I'd say it's in far too big a pot for the size of it.
What's it growing in? They need good drainage at that sort of size, but a decent amount of water - much like any small plant.

I hope you didn't pay much for it. It's a very poor looking specimen. Have you contacted the seller?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Agree, massive pot for a tiny specimen.
How can you lie there and think of England

    The pot is only about
an inch bigger than the previous one. And it is in a very gritty compost

Could be the sun. I'll move it to a more shady area.

Was it filling the previous pot - the roots that is?

  • Did you check the size of the actual root ball before you re potted ?  I agree with the above that the pot looks way too big for the size of the plant but perhaps it was over potted by the seller to begin with ?
As said, it is a poor looking specimen - was it totally green when you first purchased it ?

The branches should easily reach over the sides of the pot. Yours is probably stagnating in a pot that is far too big; I’m sorry to say that I don’t think I would be buying it any green bananas.

The roots were coming out the bottom of the previous pot, thats why I repotted it.
  • Sometimes roots may creep out of the bottom but unless their is a good spread of roots ( ie a root ball ). it isn't always beneficial to put in a larger pot.
I'd guess the best way is not to allow more than an inch or so of soil at the base and all round the sides.  Any more than that for such a small specimen means roots sitting surrounded by damp soil which they aren't capable of making use of. This method tends to mean more re potting but usually worth it in the end.
As said too, keeping it out of strong sunshine and winds will help whilst it establishes.
Best of luck with it anyway :)
