Magnolia trees

Sadly we have to have our old brown-leafed cherry plum tree removed as it is diseased and dying. We fancy having a small magnolia tree in its place, but there are so many. It is in the middle to our front lawn, so don’t want a massive one (we are pensioners so what happens in 20 or so years won’t be relevant!).  However, we don’t want a small shrub. Any suggestions? • We have other magnolias in our garden but we visited a real nursery nursery last week to replace a space that was...... Well we found a polytunnel full of magnolias. Wonderful plants and so well looked after.
We decided to buy Magnolia "Lois". We don't usually buy hybrids but we loved the idea that it would be a yellow flower and it already had the buds for the Spring.
However the label said 3-4 m but when home our books said up to 20m!!!!
The plant was already 4 ft once planted in the ground so we are happy and looking forward to the Spring.
