I had another look at the vine today. Where the mould is, the trunk is definitely rotting as I can mark it easily with my finger nail. The thickest branch of the trunk has been dead since I planted it 2 years ago and I wonder if it has started rotting and that has poisoned the other side. I’m wondering if cutting the thick side out would be a good idea now to save the other side. I have ringed where the mould is in red and where I am wondering about cutting off the dead part in blue.
Only one little part of this year’s growth has survived and I have cut off all of the stuff that has died now.
What do you think, is the cutting back a good idea?
