Echinacea

Hello,

I planted my free GW Echinacea seeds but they still haven't flowered. The plants look fairly healthy, just no flowers. Are they likely to flower or will they just be leafy plants? Is it worth keeping them for next year, if so what should I do with them over winter?

Thanks in advance

I don't grow them now,  but they'd need potted up separately in order to grow on and make decent plants to plant out  :)

They take several years to flower from seeds, perhaps yours are young plants.  They can be grown in pots, but in my experience do better in the ground.  Next Spring, give them a weekly liquid feed, right through to Autumn, to encourage flowering.  You can also deadhead the flowers to encourage more.

They look great for babies. They need time but may flower next year if you plant them out and we have a mild winter.
  • Thanks everyone. I'm still new to this so am learning all the time. I'm not able to put them in the ground yet as I have no beds, but hopefully by next Spring, I will. I will keep an eye on them over winter and go from there 😁.

They're good healthy looking plants @Birdgirl82, but they'll need separated.
Hopefully they'll grow on well for next year  :)
