Is this a weed?

I was told it was a weed but I am not sure. It had small purple flowers and now has small green pods of some kind
I did tie it to a stake and it seemed to grow better but am I just looking after a weed.
If not does anyone know what it is?

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
l will definitely dig it up then as I have enough to do with some flowers taking over without having the same problem with weeds
