Damage to leaves of newly planted perennials

Something is eating the leaves and the flowers of gerber and rudbeckia as well as a recently purchased coleus.  Is it slugs? as there are no other signed of pests? can anyone help

    Slugs are certainly a likely contender. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Probably that or snails.look under the leaves and under surrounding plants. Snails will attach themselves to walls or fences.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Thanks to all who commented I think I will do the torch and search tonight and then go from there!
  • Insects and a few common diseases (with the help of a hand lens or magnifying glass), but detecting problems caused by poor care or environmental circumstances can be difficult.
