Peonies

Hi there..First time growing  peonies ..I have 3 peonies only small 1 has a flower bud but 2 of them have a bud that has turned black also some leaves are black at the edges..the one with the  flower bud seems to have survived! Should I leave the rest and hope it goes ..?.

    If they're very small, it's better to remove any buds to avoid them wasting energy on trying to flower, at the expense of a good root system.  :)
    Certainly odd that they're flowering, or trying to, now.
    Mine are turning as it's autumnal now, but any dark edges to foliage can be signs of stress damage - that can be wind, excess watering, or hot sun scorching them. The buds that are too small and black are usually just too immature to flower.  
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • Yes I think they have been put in too late..I found  some corms in the shed forgot what they were and just stuck them in hoping for the best!
  • Ah that explains it. I'd agree, remove the buds to let them grow a bit more until they start going dormant. At least you know they were planted at the correct depth if they tried to flower!
