Weeping crab apple and forsythia- dead??

Hi, we planted these in early April and then had a month of frost at night and scorching sun in the day which as Adam Frost would say, has mullered them!

. I think they could be dead but it is worth cutting back to ground level to try to revive them? Thanks!

They're both large specimens, and they can be harder to establish, especially if the conditions aren't good. They'd have needed a good can full of water every couple of days if it was dry.
Alternatively, if the ground is constantly wet, that wouldn't have helped, but again, organic matter is the key to improving it
