I've got heap loads of moths coming in the house at night. Mostly in the bedroom, when I've got my bedside lamp on, despite having the curtains shut and just the fanlight window open (not even the bigger window, I've been trying to dissuade them).
Every night we have to evict three of four moths from the house - they come in the back, we let them out of the front. In fact I'm sure there's a groove in the carpets from our moth-eviction route.
And the moths that come in are all shapes and sizes. My favourite is one called a rosy footman moth, which was a new one on me.
I'm in Sussex, and there are a lot of trees and cover near us, so hopefully good conditions for moths to hide/shelter from predators.
Not that any of this helps what you're experiencing in London, I just wanted to show that all is not lost...!
Delightful to hear. I do love the names of butterflies and moths - endlessly whimsical - poetic - unlike most flora and fauna naming protocols I have come across.
I’ve just spent five minutes apiece on my doorbell and back garden cam and can safely say there are lots of moths around here.
I also sat at the outhouse door waiting for the hogs earlier and saw lots darting around the lawn lights and around the hedges. A few tried to come in but my aura must have sent them away.
@TheGreenMan I was going to put you in touch with J, as you seemed to be in exactly the same area, and then I realised you are the same person and you have changed your log in!
We get some every night. Some fly in (although I try to never have open windows when lights are on), some are brought in by the cat. On summer nights, I can watch bats hunting them around the streetlights. It has to be like a buffet for them.

I almost posted a new discussion to tell people of the change but then realised I’m not famous and no one would care 😂
