Geranium antik pink standard

Colo_hColo_h Posts: 16
Hi,

I have been given a beautiful tall Geranium antik which looks stunning on my decking, but wondered what I should do to save it for next year.

I don't own a green house but can bring it indoors before the cold weather comes.

Would I keep it as is or cut it back?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Is it a standard (tree shape) or it it trained to climb? I know the antik varieties are grown to ‘climb’. Can we have a photo?

Thank you, here is a photo.

It’s a tall variety, trained to ‘climb’ on some supports. It’s up to you and the space you have available if you cut it back or not. If it was mine and I had a heated sunny conservatory, I would keep it as it is (or train it on a wall). If I had just a windowsill, I would probably cut it about three quarters down.
  • I would also take some cuttings to over-winter on a window sill.

    Thank you.

We don't have a conservatory but we have large glass sliding doors, lots of sun hits it and it's warm. I was thinking perhaps it could sit near there.

Someone we know advised us to cut it back and stick it in a shed with minimal watering over winter.

Also when do you normally bring them in?

  • You can do either of these things - keeping them growing in light/warm and water, or you can them cut back and reduce watering to make them go `dormant`. As pitter-patter says, it often comes down to how much room you have. I bring mine in when temps get down to around 10C.
