Sorry for all the questions / posts lately but I’m an indecisive person! 😂
Ive never used the pill feature so this is exciting also!

Okay so, Ive a climbing rose 🌹 growing by my doorway and Id like to combine it with a clematis to climb through it and a hardy geranium to hide the feet.

I have two combinations in mind (I already have the rose) and I’d like to know people’s thoughts. Here are pictures of the combinations to illustrate.
im really excited about going this - even though it will involve removing paving slabs 😶

thank you!!! 😄

I'm not a fan of purple and orange together. I would personally choose Alibaba with a pale cream clemitis and a pale cream geranium.

Thanks @Fire this is why I need advice! I’m not that experienced a gardener so it’s good to hear from others.

It's just entirely down to personal taste. I would go with what you love. You have to see it every day, not me.  :D

I guess one question is whether you would want the clems and roses to be flowering at the same time - as a big explosion of colour, or are going for a more continous flowering across the season.

That is a good question… I had picked the clematis as later flowering in the hope they plug that gap while the rose is between flushes…

I agree, go with what you love. I’m growing Alibaba and I think it could easily be overwhelmed by the wrong clematis.

I love the purple and orange combination, so I would probably grow the rose with clematis Westerplatte and geranium Jolly Jewel Purple.

I prefer the first group. The blue blue (I see it as blue rather than purple)  accentuating the apricot (not orange to me).
They’re complementary colours and accentuate each other.

The second group are too similar in tone for me.

But neither are what I would choose. I’d probably go for a deep mauve clem  to go with that rose, and a silvery blue hosta like Hadspen’s  Blue.

Thanks @pitter-patter - I love alibaba … I think it’s my favourite climbing rose. Or joint first with ghislaine de feliginde… loving your combination too - it looks great!
Me of my reasons for choosing lighter colours is my house is in shade for the afternoon / evening and so I’ve found lighter colours pop more.
@Dovefromabove sounds like a beautiful combination for sure - thanks for the suggestion.

    B. Clematis hagley hybrid - alibaba rose - geranium dreamland
I agree with @Fire soft colours such as cream and ivory would look nicer.

I'd go with an evergreen geranium, and a late flowering clematis - a viticella - or even a winter flowering one, like Jingle Bells

I think A the blue/orange combination stands out as they're complementary colours as Dove mentions.
B is nice, but the orangy/pink combo looks bland by comparison - to me.
That said Hagley Hybrid is an excellent clematis
