New Turf - When can I cut it?

I’ve moved into a new build property and I’m arguing with my dad about when I can cut it. I was told that I can’t walk on it for 28 days but dad insists that I’ve to cut it now, only a week after it’s been laid. It is getting quite long but I’ve been so careful not to tread on it I don’t want to kill it. What do we do?

No. If it's just been turfed a week ago, it needs to establish. You shouldn't even be walking on it really.  :)
When it's around 3 or 4 inches, you can take an inch or so  off. Any more than that isn't good for the root system.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I waited 3 weeks and until the grass wouldn’t ‘lift’ at the edges when pulled the pieces of turf, before I first cut mine after laying.
The first cut was also more of a trim to the tops rather than a full close shave.
it does need to be firmly rooted before cutting.
