Geraniums

My mixed geraniums havent been very good this year.Maybe they were waterlogged with the heavy rain we had earlyier in the spring. The only one thats done good is the ones in my hanging baskets. Others were in pots. Has anyone else found this.?

Mine haven't done well. I blame it on the tea bags which have strangled the roots.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • My pot of white ones that I over-wintered started off well but the flowers have just turned into a brown soggy mess. The trailing ivy one has done much better - more water-proof?

I'm assuming we're talking about bedding pelargoniums here rather than hardy geraniums?

I ask because my geraniums have been fantastic this year and have bounced back really quickly from their mid summer short back and sides. Fully expect a 2nd flush of flowers - maybe a third. I think they've really enjoyed having enough rain this year instead of the semi-drought we usually get here in mid-Suffolk.

I don't use many pelargoniums but the ones  in pots have done ok. However, they prefer it drier and I have to keep removing flower heads damaged and browned by the rain.

    Swings and roundabouts.

I was just thinking today that I've rarely seen pelargoniums looking so healthy round this area, because we've had the driest July on record. Normally, they get battered by this time of year and look fairly dreadful, unless they're kept somewhere sheltered enough.  :)

Hardy geraniums have been pretty much ok though, despite the drier spell. Still been enough moisture for them.

My pelargoniums have done quite well, in spite of the cooler, wetter summer. I usually take cuttings in the autumn and overwinter them in the house.

  • Beautifull. Given up for this year now.

What's your dark one @pitter-patter? I had Lord Bute a few years ago, as I love it, but was unable to get it again last year. Not something I usually buy as I don't really care for them, but it was the colour.
I have to remember I have them though, if I get them. The two night of minus 6 and 7 that October saw them off  :D

Should have done cuttings - you could still do that @susan glover  :)

@Fairygirl The dark one is called Tomke (sometimes Tommy). It’s really velvety, I can’t seem to capture that in a photo.
