    Not J. knotweed, the leaves are not the correct shape for that.

    Definitely not japanese knotweed.  Could be hazel shoots, perhaps?  (Corylus avellana)

    Ditto.
    25th July,  West of Aberdeen at Banchory.  Scotland I found hazel nuts and baby catkins on the same shrub.

    Hazel. The squirrels eat all my nuts before they are ripe.

    At home here in Perthshire I am lucky to have red squirrels in my garden that come regularly to my feeder and are a delight.

    I believe they also have red squirrels in Banchory.
    I happened on this hazel while walking over the road bridge on the River Dee.
    Water levels were very low.

    Thankyou everyone, I guess this explains why there's a store of nuts in my garage. I broke a branch off and it wasn't hollow. New house and I was worried because it grew so high, guess the surveyor wasn't wrong then...
