Dahlia with Curled leaves

Hi all,

I have this year tried to grow dahlias and I am having mixed successes.

My bed that I have growing with the intension of cut flowers are looking great, although they do seem slow to flower this year, but there are buds appearing now.

the question I have is regarding the Dahlias that I have grown from Seed and have planted in my garden bed. They all seem to have curled and knurled leaves. I know slugs love a munch on Dahlias and Earwigs like to eat the flower buds, but I didn't think either of these would make the leaves look like this. any ideas what might be causing it?

And before someone asks, I know it wold be much better if I had a picture to post but I cant post a picture right now as I'm not at home.

regards,
Glen.

A pic would certainly help, but if the foliage is browned, it sounds more likely to be wind/sun damage than anything else.
If it's been very dry while they're into good growth, that can be enough to cause it, just as you can get it with tomato foliage,  but difficult without seeing the nature of the damage.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

no discolouration all very green. its almost like the leaves have been damaged and not grown correctly.

I will try to get some pictures this evening, though its hammering down today, so not sure if I will get them today.
