Suttons

I'm not sure if this is the correct category to ask this, but what's your experiences like with Suttons?
I've bought stuff from them in the past and on the whole its been ok, but I'm considering placing a large (ish) autumn bulb order with them and I've heard recently that the quality and service is no longer as good as they are now part of T&M, which I've not had a good experience with previously.
any thoughts on Suttons or tips for where to buy my bulbs from at a reasonable price.

For bulbs at a reasonable price,  I always use J. Parker,  there a 10% discount in gardeners world magazine if you’re a subscriber, or there’s usually one available on the net.

I placed  a large order for bulbs with Suttons last year.  I had to chase and chase them to get them delivered in time for autumn planting.  The bulb sizes were variable, and some of the tulip bulbs looked as if they had just been lifted out the soil, rather than cleaned and properly stored.
The results this spring were, unsurprisingly, disappointing.  Some were lovely as described, but many were poor quality (some didn't even bloom) and the colours were variable.
They won't get my order this year.
  • Go to a specialist for bulbs, like Peter Nyssen their quality control is very good and you can choose exactly when they deliver to you. The offers elsewhere may seem tempting but not worth it for getting half rotted bulbs.

I've had shocking service from them this year. I would go with a bulb specialist like Peter Nyssen.

Thanks Guys. Glad i asked. I've had bulbs from Peter Nyssen before. I bought a load of species tulips. Planted them all with great anticipation, all for the local rats and squirells to dig them all up!  :(
I'm wondering now our neighbours have cats is it worth another try with some species Tulips in the back garden.

It's hard if you are planting over a large area. Over small areas / pots I put chicken wire or netting over the top if there is a digging up concern, until they sprout.
