Bendy Eucalyptus
I’m looking for some advice…I bought a Eucalyptus pauciflora subsp. niphophila last October to provide a screen in our overlooked garden. I understand from my research this snow gum is a dwarf variety and can be well maintained at a height of around 3-4m.
I bought the plant at 2m from a reputable nursery and planted it as per instructions. I did not stake it, but intended to leave the transportation stake in for no more than a year as advised. Over the spring and summer the tree has grown by about a two thirds of a meter as expected, but has become very bendy and wonky (as is top heavy). The girth of the tree just does not match the height/weight and in the wind it’s fairly wild.

It’s at the height we want and so have snipped of the top of the lead branch to try and limit vertical growth. I have also staked it as it was just too wild in the wind! I’m aware this isn’t advised, but it was growing at a significant angle.
Its a lovely tree and we would like to keep it, however, wondering if there is any hope for strengthening the trunk going forward as aware eucs shouldn’t be staked for long as won’t strengthen.

Any suggestions very gratefully received!
