Sowing in August?

I’m keen to get going with preparations for next year’s garden and noticed that Monty suggested you could sow verbena b now on Friday’s GW. Has anyone done this, or could recommend other seeds for sowing now?

Hi Jenny.  I expect you could sow many of the hardy annuals now to get an earlier show of flowers next year and maybe biennials such as foxgloves and some hardy perennials too like pansies and penstemon.

  • Thanks @Obelixx I’ve got foxgloves on the go, the albiflora and silver fox. Will have a look through my seed box for potential candidates!

I've only ever done it in late spring, because cuttings work best here, but I don't see any reason why you can't have a go. They'd need some protection over winter as they're likely to be small    :)

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I have a small greenhouse @Fairygirl so can provide some protection. I’ll have a go! 🙂
