Issue with Acer

Hi, I have a small acer that was growing really well up to about 4 weeks ago.
The leaves were very healthy then but now are curled dry and shedding.
Please photos. Any advice would be gratefully received

    Possible wind burn or too much sun.

    Move to a more sheltered area and see how it goes.

    Thank you, it only gets the morning sun where it is but I may move it but am limited in sheltered areas

    I think that's been suffering for a while.  It's actually quite mature shrub, as they're slow growing.
    I'd agree that too much sun/wind will fry foliage, and a shady, or semi shady site is best for those dissectums. If you can move it into shade, it might recover. Some of the branches look dead.
    What are all the canes for? Have they been pushed into the roots?
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    The canes are only there for support and may have touched the roots.  It’s planted in the wooden planter, should I try planting it directly into the soil?

    It would certainly be better in the ground, as long as you have a suitable site,  but it would be worth checking first to see if it's still alive.
    How long have you had it? If it's well rooted, that might be difficult.

    They really don't need supports - they're self supporting  :)

    It’s probably about 5 years old 
    How do you check it’s still alive?

    Scrape the bark with your finger nail,if it's green it's alive if brown it's dead. Has it always been in the Same place? All mine bar one are in pots,semi shade,under trees very little direct sunlight. They are Japanese woodland plants. I lost one a couple of years ago to wind burn

    Has it got access to the ground below, or is that a container with a base?
    If it's the latter, has the soil [they need soil, not just compost]  been refreshed, and has it been fed at all? 
    That's also very important.

    Yes it has a base, yes I feed it but I haven’t refreshed the soil
