Can tomato fruits be ripened without before being fully grown?

I’ve taken some tomatoes inside after the stem snapped and left them with a banana in some newspaper, I opened them after two days and they have become a very pale green and softened significantly. I wasn’t expecting much as only one or two were even a decent size yet they have seemed to ripen slightly.

    Once they start changing colour to a paler green they're starting the ripening process, so should carry on doing so.
    They just need warmth.  :)  
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Yeah, however they were very small and immature when pulled off and granted while being cherry tomatoes, some of them were still only just the size of marbles. They were also a really dark green as well so I didn’t actually think they’d even ripen at all but I tried anyway
