Plants for difficult areas

A large field maple, shed and fence.....dark dry area needs to be lightened up.   I would love some suggestions for flowering  perennials with white or cream.  Or perhaps a not too bushy shrub.   Something to lighten up the spot and there is a persian ivy slowly cImbing said fence, which is painted grey.
